Tom and Maddie had their work cut out for them when they decided to adopt three traumatized alien children. By curious happenstance, all three had been isolated and forced to fend for themselves due to circumstances outside their control. However, Tails presented a unique challenge.
While Sonic and Knuckles' circumstances were no less tragic, they spent a few years under the guardianship of someone who loved them. They had memories of being cared for, of receiving instruction on how to navigate the world. Tails had no such memories, and essentially raised himself. The differences between their youngest and his older brothers are subtle and pose challenges, but they’re all committed to helping Tails understand he’s loved and a member of the family.

“Sonic! Neo!”
Sonic’s ear twitched at the sound of Rouge’s voice. He and Neo turned their heads to see the former jewel thief and now Freedom Fighter dropping down onto the sand a few feet away from them. Her heavy breathing told Sonic that she must have been pushing herself hard to get here fast.
“Rouge? What’s going on?” Sonic asked.
“Wave and Nicole found Tails,” Rouge managed to told him once she caught her breath.
They… they found Tails? His chest felt like it was being constricted, his throat ached again, and his heart pounded against his chest. Could it be true?
“But you’re not gonna like what—”
Sonic didn’t wait for her to finish. He pulled away from Neo and sprung to his feet.
“Sonic, wait!” Neo called, reaching for his hand, but it was too late. The teenage hedgehog was already running at top speed, heading for the Freedom Fighters’ home base. He had to know if Rouge was right, if Wade and Nicole were right. He had to know where Tails was. He had to, if he was going to make up for his failure nearly two years ago now.
Hang in here, little bro. I’m coming.

AKA your average simon-crashlands-on-Erid fic but with a fairly aquatic twist! Very gorey, I actually gagged while writing it which I think speaks to the tone of at least the first chapter. I'll be messing around a lot with the themes of humanity and the effects of being connected to something that hurt you. Will probably update semi-regularly if I don't get burnt out, but this shit has been plaguing my brain for a good while now so maybe we'll get somewhere who knows!!!

Metal Sonic beeped again, this time punctuated by an annoyed buzz. Did Chris forget already that this unit was not capable of vocal speech?
Metal Sonic gripped the child and her pet tighter, being careful not to hurt them with its sharp claws (organic lifeforms were so delicate), and continued to speed through the corridor, no longer caring if the security cameras spotted them.

Self-loathing creeps into the back of Shadow's throat, face scrunching up in shame. He acted pathetically, acting like he was in some battle when, in reality, he was surrounded by people who wouldn't care what he did. In fact, they encouraged him to take up space and do whatever he reasonably wanted to do. How could he act like this? Why did he act like this? There was no threat, weapon, or group of scientists or canisters of his own Chaos energy. There was nothing but Maddie's flowers, family photos, and the scent of summer air.
OR: Shadow has been living with the Wachowski family for a little while and struggles to live a life where he's no longer an experiment or a means to an end
