A different Takatoshi, a better one, had once said to a different Okino: I’d rather be holding you right now myself. That Takatoshi had worn his face but not his skin. He realized, suddenly, that he had no idea whether any Takatoshi had ever let anyone hold this current body, or whether it had been the same miserable cycle all the way down, top to bottom, over thousands and thousands of years.
It was a massively exhausting prospect.

Normally, his thoughts would follow a linear path, a structured, orderly methodology, reflected in the handwritten journals he kept. But when it came to Ryoko, came to her well being and happiness, everything he knew flew out the window because all he could think about was her.
It was absurd, how she drove him mad. Renya had no clue how to navigate romantic matters, did not even think he was capable of experiencing the same feelings that seemed to come so naturally to his peers. It was an entirely different playing field, just as otherworldly as the new planet they lived on.

That, indeed, was that day’s date. The passage of time is, of course, unstoppable.
Except for the fact that, according to Ida’s calculations, there should’ve been no September 6th, 1985. Nor a September 7th, or an 8th, or any semblance of a future for mankind in this loop. Careful analysis of the patterns in kaiju invasions and some research of Sector 0 data marked this as the most likely date for the day the final Sector would be invaded by the kaiju. The supercomputer at the underground Shikishima laboratory was incapable of failure, so why was he still sitting on his desk, fully cognizant?
In which Tetsuya Ida wakes up in his office and is hit with the weight of all that he's done and that has happened, before picking up the parts of himself that remain and putting himself back together.
