Everyone knew Pam was an alcoholic, but nobody seemed to care. When Haley had to pick up one of Emily's shifts at the saloon, she was expected to just keep smiling and keep serving her drinks. She was expected to ignore the way she got angrier and angrier over the course of the night. She was expected to pay no mind to the way Penny completely retreated into herself any time Pam got near her, like she was scared of what Pam might do.
It wasn't like Haley and Penny were friends, even. They'd never really spoken to each other. Haley just couldn't ignore it. Penny needed help, and Haley was there, and it didn't seem like anyone else cared. So she stepped in to help.
Somehow, Penny ended up helping her too.

She imagined more of what Robyn would do if she were actually sleeping here tonight. Winter would curl her cold body into Robyn’s warm chest. Robyn would run her fingers through Winter’s hair, muttering praise and comforts, silencing her fears. She’d grin as she kissed Winter on her cheek, her ear, and the top of her head, telling her how she’s the most beautiful girl in the world.
She imagined Robyn purring in her ear, whispering filthy overwhelming promises that Winter could only groan in response as her body heated up. Robyn can say anything to her. Anything she likes. Even terrifying things. But it’s Robyn, and Brothers help her, Robyn means it.
She imagined Robyn's hot breath purring in her ear, long fingers seeking purchase in her heat.
