He held the rifle up to his eye, trying to get the most accurate shot. It wasn't easy, sitting so many yards away from his intended target. The creature was very convincing, too; wearing one of the girl's dresses and bonnet and sitting very delicately upon the settee. He couldn't see its face, but he figured once she turned around he'd make his shot right between the eyes. Painless, that way. He wasn't a cruel man, this was merely business. The human-thing got up slowly, putting it's book down, and as it turned to face the window and gaze into the dark night beyond, the assassin almost fell out of the tree he crouched in.
"Pidge!?" he breathed out in a crack of his voice.

Summary
Killua never let himself believe in the concept of freedom. His family had been shackled down to the Capitol when Grandpa Zeno drove a spear through his partner’s throat. He never let himself hope for an escape, until he met stupidly stubborn Gon, who made things seem like huh, maybe there was a way to find joy in their sorrows.
Building a home together was easy. Creating a life with Gon was natural. Falling in love was inevitable. Excitement replaced dread, and finally Killua relaxed.
What came after was a reminder that nothing ever lasts long.
