Zack eyes him warily. That scrunched brow and faintly curled lips of his giving the look of quiet concern away. He hums, clicks his tongue, shifts his weight. It only serves to make Cloud grow more timid, turtle-like; wanting to tuck away and hide into the wide berth of his muffler, but being unable to.
“You’re sure you’re alright, Cloud?” Zack asks him again, his tone more stressed than the first time.

Summary
Cloud looks up at him, eyes shiny still. He grabs Zack suddenly, by the collar, pulls him in close. Moments ago, Zack would not have begrudged this whatsoever, but now it doesn’t feel like Cloud is in the best headspace, and he’d rather, if Cloud is going to kiss him, that it be a less tearful event.
“Cloud?” he asks.
“I thought I could handle this. But you’re—” He shakes his head, then releases Zack so suddenly that Zack stumbles backward slightly, legs knocking into the couch next to them.
Zack frowns. “I’m what?”
Cloud pauses for a long moment. “You’re, well, you.”

The gang gets reincarnated. This time, it's Zack who doesn't remember.

Summary
Shinjiro raises an eyebrow again, because that’s enough of an answer for him anyway. “Yeah, that checks out. I can hear Junpei snoring from across the fuckin’ hall.”
This time, Makoto’s lip curls into something resembling a smirk, but he remains quiet.
Shinjiro finds that he doesn’t really mind the lack of responses. Especially since slowly, this terribly weird kid is easing out of his bent position hung over the railing, and now he’s looking up at the sky like literally anyone more normal would do. His reaches his hands out behind him so he can slouch into his arms, like he didn’t just spend however long dizzyingly close to nose-diving off their building.
He watches the kid’s fingers tap against the concrete in a rhythmic motion, to the beat of the double-bass drum he can hear blaring from the headphones still. He has no idea how this boy isn’t deaf by now, if his music is always this loud, and yet he seems as calm and collected as ever.
Tartarus will be an interesting ride with this kid at the helm, he thinks.
