“You feel that?”
Fuck. It's the intruder. He hadn’t shown up in a couple days, so the protagonist started gaining hope that he was gone for good.
But here he was again, antagonizing him like every other night. “Change is haunting you…so am I. And now one of your ilk is deathless, all because of a word. A single word…But what a word it is! You know who I mean, yes? Strange things happen around you.”
“I don't care.” I don't feel anything. But he knows that's a lie. The protagonist checked in the mirror daily, a creeping fear traveling up his spine that he was becoming a Visitor—that he was spending so much time inviting the wrong people that he was getting infected by them.
And he was.
Or: The intruder comforts the protagonist as he evolves into a Visitor.

He attempts to get back into routine, unaware that a particular creature would come begging for sanctuary in the future.

“...howdy?” Viktor called out uneasily, his voice cracking just slightly. The dark figure bent down suddenly, its face, or half its face, visible beneath a hat, the rest was covered in shadow. Though it had appeared quite tall in the distance, it was likely at least twice Viktor’s height if it had needed to bend over to face the peephole.
“...oh.” The thing croaked out in a throaty, masculine voice, its visible jaw shifting slightly. “I didn’t think people would move in while I was away, I was just gonna come in before remembering to knock.”
Viktor swallowed at the figure’s casual tone, adjusting the collar of his white turtle neck as an uncomfortable sweat began to form. The thing’s mouth had hardly even moved as it spoke—how it achieved such a thing was incredibly jarring.
Viktor was typically not picky with who he allowed inside, but he had a feeling that it wouldn’t be exactly smart to entertain a conversation with the obvious visitor, much less let it in.
He kept talking.

A shadowy figure is approaching Viktor’s house tonight, and there’s a very good chance the thing may be a visitor. What it wants is currently unknown, however Viktor will find himself being very affected.

“V-Verity, Verity, p-please!” he wailed, his hands instinctively reaching up to try and shove the creature’s face away from his. It didn’t budge, instead leaning in closer, growling darkly.
“I told you it wouldn’t work.” Verity’s voice was distorted, tinged with anger as their claws started digging into the wounds along Mob’s arms, making his body jolt in agony. Mob turned his head away, blood and tears pooling underneath him.
“I’m sorry!” he sobbed. “I’m sorry, okay?! I am!”
“You’re mine, Mob. Mine.”
“I-I’m yours, I’m yours! Please, Verity, i-it hurts-”
“It’s supposed to hurt!” Verity’s hands squeezed Mob’s wrists so tight it was a miracle they didn’t snap. “You hurt me, so I hurt you!”
“I said I was s-sorry-”
“Say you’re mine!”
“I-I’m yours!”
“Say you’ll never try to run from me again!”
“I-I won’t! I’ll stay with you forever! I promise, okay?! Just please, please, stop!”
