Summary
The blood on his body is dry and crusted, tracing paths like rivers climbing mountains, from his abdomen to his throat. It then splatters—like sparse, fervent, melting snow—across his face, up to the bridge of his nose.
Lestat flinches, then freezes.
His breath is so heavy it becomes audible, and then seems to turn into a serene sigh.
“It’s not your blood,” he concludes, relieved.
“No, it isn’t, baby," Louis agrees. “Can I come over there?”OR
After dealing with Bruce, Louis cannot help himself, but go to Lestat.

Summary
“It’s okay, love, it’s okay,” Lestat kisses him, tasting the blood in his tears. “You take care of me, I take care of you.”
Louis nods. Yes, yes, yes.
“You kiss my tears, I kiss yours,” Lestat whispers, doing just that, and his hands start shaking but it’s out of love, so much love.

Summary
He tells himself, as he tugs on the reins to keep from straying from the path climbing the hill, that no one should ever witness it. The pendant he wears around his neck is heavy with gold and bounces against his chest with every gallop. Louis traces the return of his breath upon it, and with it every beat that still soothes his heart. Lestat’s hair—a faint trace, honey-wheat under the summer sun, the scent of lavender lingering in every strand. But stiff, terribly stiff—just like a dead person’s hair. Cold in their coffin at the first snow of the wake—they lie locked away in that golden locket. Protected and eternal, against his heart.
