Nikola was going to bang her head against the counter. Some of the dayshift people took up smoking as a stress relief; maybe she should take a page out of their book. “You want to know what fucking year it is?”
“Hey! Mind the language!” Blondie gasped. Nikola couldn’t be assed to care about it, since she had sworn out a guy once for trying to kiss her hand over the counter, and her boss had learned then there was a reason nobody else ever wanted to take the nightshift besides her and Phineas. “Little ears are present.”
He clamped his hands around Bob-Cut’s head, but lasted for only a second before she reached up, grabbed him by the wrists, and yanked him off of her. “You’re younger than me.”
“I wasn’t talking about age, Pompom.”
Oh, Jesus fuck, they had cheesy nicknames for each other. Nikola was going to vomit.

Nikola, working her usual shift at a gas station at the edge of the woods, is just trying to get through her night. This group of assholes arrive to make it harder for her.

Summary
There were memories that he grasped at, like the silver minnows in the river that slipped between his fingers. The fish didn't all belong to his river, drifting in from other streams and creeks and rivers, all of them converging into one path. Sometimes a fish leapt out of the water and into his outstretched arms, but none of those were his. The fish from his river knew their home and stayed close to the bottom, far enough down that he would have to wade into the river and risk being swept away to have a chance at catching them. They wouldn't break the surface like these fish that weren't his, these minnows he did not recognize.

Summary
Ford is going to go to West Coast Tech. Yes, there was a bump in the road, Stan broke his perpetual motion machine, but he fixed it! No need to worry, everything was alright and no one would know–
Ford doesn’t get in. Stan is kicked out. Homeless and scared, he falls asleep in the Stanleymobile with a thin reassurance that, at the very least, this is the worst of it.
And then he wakes up in his bed again, and Stan has to wonder, maybe that’s not true.
