The irony is if they genuinely wanted to protect children, they'd crack down on the content out there that *actually* harms kids, like CP. The cops have full power and capacity to do this, as seen in various high-profile court cases after the fact where major players in these networks have been caught due to their internet activity; they just don't bother to do it wholesale, likely because dragging every person who makes and consumes child abuse content into the light would catch a large number of important politicians in the net, and they can't have that.
