At the height of his seventeen years, experiencing the pressures of the university entrance exam at an all-boys school, Yeon Si-eun is the only one in his class who has yet to manifest his sub-gender. Focused and impassive, he has no problem with that, despite some inconveniences. His classmates, however, especially Jeon Young-bin, seem determined to tease and pressure him in the cruelest way possible. These circumstances lead him to develop a strange relationship with Ahn Soo-ho, some kind of anti-hero at his school, who fascinates him as much as he irritates him. When the two of them are forced to coexist beyond the confines of the classroom, Si-eun begins to realize that his sub-gender may be more significant than he thinks — and so are his feelings.

That seems so impossible right now and Sieun recognizes the shoes of Nurse Chae near him, sees her contemplating reaching out, sees other doctors peeking in at the door. It’s humiliating, knowing they’re seeing him for who he really is; a big, disorganized mess. Sieun hates messes.

Su-ho thought Si-eun would’ve had a steady hand, if his immaculate handwriting was any benchmark to go by. Turns out, it wasn’t, because it looked like his haircut was administered by a drunkard given sticky safety scissors.
“Your dream job wouldn’t happen to be a barber, would it?” he holds up the hand mirror at arms’ length, shuffling his layers around. It didn’t help. “Or surgeon. It’s not too late to reconsider.”
“Sorry.” Si-eun does look apologetic, all things considered. “Maybe it’ll grow out nicely.”
“It’ll grow out horribly,” Su-ho announces, handing back the mirror. “And when it does, you’ll cut it again for me, right?”
“Yeah.” he blinks. “Wait, why?”
“Because I asked you to.”
His hair looks like shit. He loved it all the same.

Sometimes, I feel like I need you more than you need me. The thought felt corrosive against his brain.
“Sometimes, you feel like…?” Su-ho raises an eyebrow, gesturing for him to continue.
“Like I buy you too many meals,” Si-eun corrects himself, feeling like that was a pretty good save, all things considered. “The next one is on you. Make it beef.”
Thankfully, Su-ho didn’t seem to catch on. His eyes widen dramatically. “Si-eun, you’re going to make me buy my own congratulatory meal? Way to kick a man when he’s down…”
Si-eun shrugs. “Labor costs.”

Su-ho wants to transfer to Eunjang High and make a clean break. Baku, Hyun-tak, and Jun-tae want to meet the mysteriously hospitalized guy he’s been visiting so religiously.
Life moves on. Si-eun can’t stop his two worlds from colliding. He’s not sure he wants them to.
