SImon had always loved the sea, the calming rush of salty air and the riplles of the waves were just so beautiful to him.
That being said, he hadnt even approached a boat in years. Let alone, go out to sea. Not since the incident.
In his life, syllaby had been the one constant in his life, his sister, always connected-even if just by blood. He knew Syllaby never really liked him, she mistly ony spoke to him because she needed something. But even then-syllaby was always his little sister.
No matter what.
....
Simon would never forget that day. Watching syll and dad go in to the boat, excited to see what they had found.
Just like always...
Dad and syllaby's boat was found three weeks later. The police simply put it aside as a boating accident and moved on. Just like everyone else..but simon couldnt. No matter how hard he tried. It felt like a vital part of him had been ripped away without warning. He couldnt forget how his sister had stuck her tongue out at him mockingly before leaving with dad to explore.
Simons mother had tried as hard as she could to keep things relatively normal. She cooked enough for two every night, kept simon in school. But nothing worked. They both still couldnt ignore the gaping hole that had been left in their lives and how it affected them both. Simon used to be quite popular in school but..ever since syllaby left his popularity had dropped significantly. Everytime simon walked into school he found that new rumors had sprouted.
"I heard he ate his dog..ALIVE"
"well i heard he killed his own sister!!"
Oh.
That one hurt a little..simon felt his chest tighten slightly.
Maybe more than a little.
He took in quiet deep breaths, attempting to ease the suppressed grief threatning to rise as his eyes scanned to hallways for enzo before he caught himself. Oh right. Gone
Enzo was the only person who had stuck with him after everything. Whenever his mother had forced him outside of his room, he would usually find enzo to mess around..now simon just reminded his mother he didnt have energy for "friends" but usually he just ended up hiding away and hoping she would leave him alone.. for a while she started to spuspect there was something wrong at school and there was:specifically tristen. Tristen hated simon in a special kind of way, the kind of unreasonable hate that comes from disliking and pitying someone si badly you just wans to make everything worse. So he made it his personal mission to make simons life as hard as possible, and simon had learnt not to try and ask why..
Although simon missed all of his lost loved ones terribly, he still moved on with daily life as usual. In his opinion, the idea of grief taking over peoples life was just a decision that the person made, to dedicate their life to being miserable-not his kind of thing. His mother however was completely destroyed by the loss, allowing grief to swallow her whole. Sometimes it made simon think of how she had dragged herself out of that darkness to care for her remaining child, instead of just wallowing in a pit of her own grief. Like a seed pushing itself out of the ground to finally catch a glimpse of sunlight, in a way he admired her for that ability. Simon never could really pinpoint how he was dealing with the grief, the only way he could describe it was he was in a marathon against it, but they both considerably lost speed, before simon would speed up again when it got too close.Sometimes there would be people who tried far too hard to help him out of pity and he aknowledged their efforts but always politely declined. Although he did have one problem he COULDNT get rid of.
Diane.
Diane was determined to talk so simon and "break him out of his shell"..
Simon would prefer if the shell closed in on him everytime.diane tried to question him about syllaby, his sisters 'death' was a tragedy, not journalism material for that sick control freak. But diane just wouldn't let it go. Almost as if she was obsessed with getting his life story. And he understood he want fir knowledge, he craved information so badly that he sometimes would just analyse people to find out more, like diane was a social butterfly who was very concerned about reputation-tristen a cold academic student worthy of a scholarship who only expressed emotions at the expense of others. Although tristen was fairly popular, with almost a quarter of the school fawning over him- though simon didnt understand it. Tristen was fairly attractive but simon just couldnt see tristen being in a healthy loving relationship, the guy could barely show love for his family let alone a lover.
