Summary:

Dialogue is about compromise.

They’d gotten distant while Abuto was off-planet.

Shin’s meeting with Genbu taught him dialogue was the route to go.

They had trains. The physical rail to reach each other, and a love for trains overall. Now that Shin was with Abuto in Abuto’s room – the closest they’d been since Abuto started driving the Dark Shinkalion – he had his chance. They weren’t worlds apart anymore. They weren’t separated by the vacuum of space.

He could do this.

Shin promised Abuto’s mom he’d take care of him. And what was waiting for Abuto when he came home was indeed the embrace of the woman who raised him by herself all these years.

Also, tons of homework he failed to hand in. Six months of it.

School stops for no man (or Teoti), it seemed.

Stepping toward the unprecedented number of papers and books on and around Abuto’s desk, Shin took a big breath.

Abuto was burning through his late submissions with the blade of his pencil, hellbent on finishing so he could save his father and rejoin Setsura and the others.

Shin understood that.

But Abuto had disappeared, worrying Shin. Abuto needed to understand that!

“After all this, you’re still…”

“Yeah. I’m going back to space. This time, to live there with all three of my family members.”

“Abuto…”

Shin’s crazy interest in the paranormal finally allowed him to befriend a real live alien. Ending it here…No. Abuto would hear him out!

“Don’t give me that look. I’m not gonna just go away suddenly.”

Wasn’t he? Less than a day back on Earth, and Abuto drops this bombshell on him?

“The Shinetsu Main Line doesn’t pass by Yugospia, Abuto.”

“The Sakurajima Maglev Test Line does.”

“Two round trips max, Rei-san said.”

The underlying issue of coexistence hadn’t been solved either.

Talking.

Negotiating.

Dialogue is a thing you do with your mouth.

Yet not all dialogue requires speech.

For Abuto and Shin, only mouths. Moving.

My beloved Shinkalion…By beloved Shin…

Shin huffs against the kiss, his chest the explosion between E5 Yamanote’s Shin Gran Cross and Dark Shinkalion Devil Mode’s Devil Gran Cross.

Find common ground.

A middle ground.

Compromise.

Smack sense into Abuto!

“What can I help you with?”

Math? Penmanship? His summer research project?

“First, the assignments I’ve missed. Then how to save Tosan.”

“All right.”

“From now on, we’re all together forever!” Smat cheers.

Abuto’s mom can only close her eyes in thanks behind the door.
